Staff playing a personal Spotify account through the shop speakers is convenient, but Spotify says its service is for personal, non-commercial use and cannot be played publicly from a business. Protected mainstream music played publicly can also need the appropriate Australian public-performance permission, commonly OneMusic depending on the business and use.
For scale, the OneMusic Gold retail schedule lists A$666.33 a year for 1–50 m² where the source includes a personal digital music service. Schedule: 2026-09-01 to 2027-08-31, GST included. Your actual cover depends on how and where you use protected repertoire.
Read the OneMusic schedulePaying for OneMusic is not the same as fixing the source. OneMusic says its licence does not override a personal digital music service’s terms. Use music built and licensed for your business instead.
